How to Straighten Your Hair with a Bit of Volume

Straight hair can be very pretty in its own way. It is sleek, shiny, and has lots of movement. Unfortunately, hair straightener can leave your hair looking too straight, with no volume and no movement.

Add a little leave-in conditioner on your ends and lengths of your hair. You can also invest in a special tousling spray to maximize volume. Spray the product throughout your strands and take small sections to distribute it evenly.

Use a clip to section off the top half of your hair. This way you can deal with the bottom portion of your hair first. Use a fine tooth comb to section out your hair and control the direction of the straightener. Section off your hair with a comb, straight up off the top of your head, and run the flat iron from roots to ends. If needed, you can take a dry texturizing spray and spray it throughout your finished strands to add thickness. If you want to give your hair slight curls at the ends don’t be afraid to do this with your iron. Just be aware of your heat settings, because if the straightener is too hot it could cause your ends to kink.

Don’t focus on the roots too much. When you have gone through all of your hair, brush the roots upward and apply hairspray for a little volume: after all, you don’t want a boring flat hairstyle! Select what part of your hair needs more volume and hold it straight upward. Place your comb in the roots and apply firm brush strokes downward to the scalp. Use hairspray to secure the volume. Repeat the procedure with the next small sections of hair. You can add some additional hairspray all over your hairstyle.
