You need shorter jeans? It is very difficult to shop for jeans that fit off the rack, especially in terms of length. For example, if you have short legs then finding jeans in the right length can be almost impossible. You do not need to give a single dime to the tailor; you can handle this all by yourself. Sewing and re-designing clothes has become very fashionable recently. When you know how easy it can be to shorten your own jeans you will be able to enjoy perfectly fitting jeans all the time.
Try on your jeans and fold the hem up to the length that you’d like your finished hem. Remember to wear a pair of shoes that you would normally wear with the jeans. If you wear flats most often, throw on a pair. If you like to wear wedges, go with those.
Step 1: Roll up the excess fabric and pin the new hem all around the leg. Mark both legs in case your legs are different lengths.
Step 2: Measure the amount you pinned up from the fold line to the edge of the original hem.
Step 3: Trim this excess fabric and then serge or zigzag over the raw edge to prevent fraying.
Step 4: If you look at the pants from the front, the lines should be straight across. Make sure that they are even as you want your jeans to look professionally made.
Step 5: Now it’s time to press! Set the iron to a steam setting and gently around the inside of the hem flattening the fabric. Wearing jeans that are too long or too short is always uncomfortable, and sometimes embarrassing. As you can see, this is no longer the case! Now you can give a second life to all of your long, unused jeans!
